Oil? Who said anyting about oil?

Move along people, there's nothing to see here

Oh, and nevermind the conservatively estimated ~22 million gallons  (or two Exxon Valdez  spills) of oil per year that naturally seeps into the Gulf of Mexico.  Or the 11-110 Exxon Valdez spills-worth of oil  that has come from offshore petroleum seeps near Coal Oil Point in the Santa Barbara (CA) Channel.  Or the 500 million gallons of oil per year (back in 1995) that end up in the environment each year due to 'down the drain' releases and 'routine maintenance' of ships bilges.  Millions of tonnes of oil reaches the sea each year.

Is oil in the ocean a good thing in the short-term?  No, but this is not something new for Mother Nature, who has her own ways of dealing with such cycles.  Is oil in the ocean a good thing for government expansion of power?  Never let a crisis go to waste!

Post Script:  Any talk of oil brings back fond memories of Dave Chappelle's, "Black Bush", a prescient title/topic if there ever was one:

So...what?? Do we love BP now and are going to fall over ourselves groveling before it Rand Paul-style?

This is libertarianism at its most idiotic. Almost as bad as the Wal-Mart and outsource altars some have set up.

"Mother Nature" has never had anyone doubt it. I doubt humans will withstand the economics of poison seafood and toxic fumes around the GoM which represents a few $ trillion in hard assets about to descend to $0. Or the fact that practically all the cleanup workers from the Valdez spill are dead.

Deal with those facts about the humans involved, and we'll talk.

Move along people, there's nothing to see here. Indeed.
